Do you have the correct Safety Equipment?

Long weekend in the ACT so Canberra boaters are out on the water. So is Maritime Area Command.

Four PWC and a high speed vessel along with their mother ship in the marina. They are checking everything that moves on the water or about to launch. Very respectfully and in most cases only giving a caution. It is unfortunate that people still dont know what they have to have on a vessel in enclosed water.

Spoke to a few masters. The major missing items - fire extinguisher if you have electric start or chartplotter must have.   Floating touch at all times- a phone does not float. Horn, whistle or pot and spoon as a sound system and of course paddles. If you launch and only one person is on the vessel you have to have a lifejacket on - you can take if off as soon as your mate arrives on board.

Simple mistake but costly if fined - yes it happened
